I have some favourite films I like watching time and again that involve witchcraft. It doesn't matter to me if they are 100% accurate because they're fun or funny.
I watched The Craft last night. I like this film for a couple of reasons. One is the acting. I think both Fairuza Balk (Nancy) and Robin Tunney (Sarah) are excellent in this film of young witches at High School. Another reason why I like the film is the fact that it makes sure we know the three fold rule, at a time when lots of High School girls seem to be looking to Wicca, they're at least aware that it will come back three times. I like the way different aspects of bullying is covered from racism, to sexual harrassment to friends turning on each other and against each other. Witchcraft is used as a bonding tool to feel more powerful and protected. It also examines how 'revenge' or getting what you want, aren't always what we need.
The next one I love is Practical Magic with Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. I love this film! I love the old house the girls are brought up in and their witch aunts. The family curse caused by a jilted witch and Kidman's Satanic never dying boyfriend. I love the love story, the small town ostracism to difference and how a little understand each way brings communities closer. It's a great film.
Another favourite is Stardust with Michelle Pfeiffer off to capture the heart of a fallen star so she can regain her youth. A wonderful story with a host of stars drawing on the ancient Irish folklore of the land between humans and Fae separated by a wall.
Finally I love Bell, Book and Candle. This is an oldie with James Stewart and Kim Novak from the 1950s. It's about a man who falls in love with a witch whilst living in New York.
