I found an interesting new year spread and thought I'd try it out.
The first three cards were: Queen of Cups/King of Pentacles/King of Swords - this represents current influences
The Dusk cards are: Hanged Man and Reversed 10 of Pentacles - this represents what's fading away
The Horizon cards are: Hierophant and Chariot - this represents what's coming into play
The Focus cards are: 2 of Swords and Devil - this is what to focus on for the new year
The Guidance card is: 2 Wands - this is guidance for the New Year.
The base card was 8 of Swords and the Sum of the Majors is 12 or the Hanged Man.
The first three cards or influences I think boringly are me (Q Cups) and my two work colleagues who basically sit at my elbows for 8 hours a day. We don't get on which is evident from the Q having her back turned towards them and highly absorbed in her own thoughts or cup. They have formed quite the boys club and excluded me quite a bit so in turn I have made friends with other colleagues. It hasn't been the best of atmosphere's but it's coming to an end pretty soon so that's something to look forward to. It doesn't give me any insight into my life but seems to be a reflection of the actual.
I am really really pleased to see the Hanged Man and reversed 10 of Pentacles moving out of my life. Now that I am coming to the end of my course, I can start moving forward. My life seems to have been on hold for a long time. I've been studying for over two years now and my choice have been limited. Ten of Pentacles I think means moving out of the rut I'm in, perhaps harking back to the 9 of Pentacles where I can be independent and free. I notice the Queen of Cups is facing these two cards and it fits that I am putting up with the two colleagues I'm working with. Hanged Man is also self sacrifice and I have had to sacrifice a lot over the last few years: money and stability while I volunteered and gained the necessary experience to move into my current career. My course also meant staying put, working part time and turning down suitable full time positions while I studied. I also spent evenings and weekends studying while others enjoyed themselves. The reversed 10 of Pentacles reminds me of a stuck record, forever on the same cycle and never moving back to anything new or fresh. My life had become stuck in a rut, staying in and studying and barely getting out.
The Hierophant and Chariot look like progress. Chariot certainly looks like a burst of forward momentum. It could mean travel is coming up for me next year which will be very focused on work. Moving into a conservative atmosphere perhaps. Interestingly these two add up to the Hanged Man. So perhaps there is more sacrifice to come for the sake of my career. It's definitely work focused I think.
Focus cards are interesting. Two of Swords relate back to the Hanged Man (so all sets seem to relate to the HM) I see this as finding a balance. A work life balance is so important and my physical health isn't great. Perhaps working on finding a balance is what I should focus on, and working on compulsive or unhealthy thinking. The Two suggests to me psychological issues but minor as there's no Moon. Perhaps it means I'm getting in my own way. I can't help noticing that the Two of Swords contrasts with the Two of Wands. Both are doorway cards being two's. In the Two of Wands the vistas are wide open, he is planning before he steps through. He gauges what is before him and has firm boundaries. The two of swords is blind and self protective. Is she saying that I can't see my biggest weaknesses and obstacles and am choosing to ignore them? Perhaps it means that I have to face some demons next year. The Two of Swords is dwarfed by the Devil, that's what's strange about the card, the perspective. Perhaps with some perspective the obsessions and demons will be under control. It takes an awful amount of focus to keep those swords in place so may the two coupled with the Chariot means that is what's needed next year. I get the feeling that next year will be tough in a new way. The Chariot tells me that I can handle it though.
Guidance is the Two of Wands. I think the Two is saying that planning is needed for next year. I'm stepping through a door (yet there is no World to signal end of a cycle). I think the Chariot is saying that once you are on a certain path, you will have to keep going so take some time (the two wands are like the pause button) to plan before you head off. Choose carefully. The world he holds could be a minor reference to the World card as well as an indication of travel. It may mean that what country I choose to work in will set the course for my career, so choose carefully. Which is interesting. He is also facing the two past cards the HM and reversed 10 of Pentacles. Maybe it's a warning that I don't want to get into a rut again. Again I'm seeing the doorways here: the two sphinxes of the Chariot, the two of wands, the gateway in the 10 of Pentacles, the closed door of the two of swords. Maybe next year I should try to ignore demons and obsessions and temporarily put that on hold while I focus my intentions on my career. The Chariot also suggests success.
I'll be interested to look back on this spread in six months and see how it's panning out.
