Have you been trying to work out what is so weird about that guy you’ve been dating?
Or, why it is that She always has an excuse for everything? Could they be a narcissist?
Thank you to Savannah Brown for pointing out a list of warning signs that you can use to determine if you are involved with one of these predators.
The more of these traits that are exhibited, the more your warning bells should ring!
The Narcissist Checklist:
What they say and what they actually do are two very different things.
The narcissist is incredibly selfish – to the point, where no one else gets a look-in at all.
They lack empathy – they repeatedly show you that they don’t care about your feelings or how their behavior will affect you. I would go so far as to say that they repeatedly display a complete lack of awareness that anybody else actually even has feelings. Truly the narcissist’s feelings are the only ones that are real to them. They cannot empathize with others, shockingly, this includes their own children. The rare occasions where they do seem to acknowledge your feelings, it’s because there’s something in it for them. Your feelings are only worthwhile as a source or means of manipulating you.
You’ve caught them in many, many lies/stories, fabrications, exaggerations, and omissions.
They minimize their involvement or responsibility in anything that has negative implications for them.
They maximize their involvement and responsibility in everything that has a potentially positive outcome for them.
They dress in a way that draws attention to them, and may seek to possess items that they believe others will covet.
It’s all about them – everything is always on their terms.
They require excessive amounts of attention and admiration.
They blow hot and cold and tends to get bored easily.
Their head seems to be on a swivel always looking for opportunities to obtain more Narcissistic Supply – they need to ‘score’ attention, like a crack addict needs a hit
There are usually a string of members of the opposite sex in the background that they call ‘friends’
